Question by dreamyhotty: What’s the difference between FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and which one would you prefer?
I’ve had a recent curiosity over UNIX-based systems, especially Linux and BSD.
How do FreeBSD and OpenBSD compare to each other, and which one do you personally recommend?
Answer by inclusive_disjunction
OpenBSD is very security oriented, even more so than other Unices. FreeBSD is performance-oriented. Since security, in the sense that OpenBSD provides it, is not as important to desktop usage as performance, I would choose FreeBSD, or one of it’s derivatives, like PC-BSD.
