Phase Two of Liverpool's summer transfer window is finally beginning. Phase One came to an end just over three weeks ago with the completion of the Reds' move for RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, but the subsequent lull is now over.

On Tuesday, the Reds reportedly submitted a bid worth $48m (£37m/€43m) for Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia and, though the relegated Saints rejected the offer, work will continue on the signing as Jürgen Klopp's side pursues an agreement (via The Athletic).

Lavia, it seems, would arrive as either the immediate replacement or long-term successor to Fabinho, whose proposed move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad is currently believed to be hanging in the balance (via The Athletic).

Liverpool may have regarded a third midfield signing as desirable rather than essential immediately after landing Szoboszlai, the second new arrival following Alexis Mac Allister, but then the shock Saudi swoops for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson (a target for Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq) shifted the landscape entirely.

Now the club may find itself pursuing not one but two more players in that department, in addition to a much-needed center-half.

With two eventual pre-season friendlies in Germany now in the books, Liverpool is heading to Singapore later in the week for games against Leicester City and, more notably, Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, the opening Premier League game of the season — a daunting trip to Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea — is now less than three weeks away.

Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn't miss.

Sadio Mané Al-Nassr move vindicates Liverpool

Last week, it was reported (by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany) that Sadio Mane wanted to fight for his place at Bayern Munich, even after being informed by manager Thomas Tuchel that he may not be in the picture for next season.

But just seven days on, CBS correspondent James Benge says that Al-Nassr has officially requested the money it needs to complete the €40m transfer, which would suggest Mane is of a mind to accept its €40m proposal.

The winger's u-turn, and his move away from Europe's top-five leagues, proves Liverpool made the right decision by offloading him last year, even if Bayern is turning a profit.

Liverpool should deny Pep Guardiola $45m transfer

Michael Olise, a transfer target for Liverpool in 2021 while he was still at Reading (via TEAMtalk), is available for a fee of just €45m (£35m/€40m) because of a release clause in his Crystal Palace contract, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City has apparently shortlisted the youngster, as well as Chelsea, but the Reds may be wise to hijack a move for a player who could ably succeed Mohamed Salah at Anfield despite a difference in playing style.

Described as 'magic' by teammate Joel Ward, he was named Player’s Player of the Season at Selhurst Park this year.

David Comerford explains here why he could be worth a shot, even though he's currently sidelined through injury.
