After yesterday’s draw at the Etihad Stadium, Liverpool looks to firmly be in the hunt for this season’s title. The Reds' Premier League credentials have become clear.

Although the Reds weren’t at their best against Manchester City, they were able to hold the defending Premier League and European champions thanks to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late goal. They remain a point behind Pep Guardiola’s side, with Arsenal now the new leaders after beating Brentford.

It has certainly been an improvement on last season for Liverpool, with Jürgen Klopp’s side now looking a safe bet to at least secure a top-four finish. There are though still plenty of pundits writing off their credentials as challengers to City’s title this season.

With the January transfer window coming up, Klopp will have the chance to strengthen his squad further, but judging by recent reports, it seems one of his title rivals won’t be doing the same, which could hand Liverpool a major advantage.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs. We start with a look at the title race.

Rio Ferdinand names Arsenal as Man City's biggest title rival

Rio Ferdinand has suggested Arsenal will be Manchester City’s biggest rival for the Premier League title this season, despite Liverpool claiming a draw at the Etihad on Saturday. The former Manchester United defender explained why he thinks two Arsenal players will give Mikel Arteta’s side the advantage over the Reds.

"The two center-backs (Gabriel and William Saliba) are the reason why I would put Arsenal ahead of Liverpool in the title race to challenge Man City," Ferdinand told TNT Sports. "I think those two, they're bang in form. You can trust them implicitly, and they look like that partnership is going to grow with the way they're playing at the moment."

Liverpool.com says: What more does Liverpool have to do to be taken seriously as a title contender? Naming Gabriel and Saliba as the difference is such a strange reason to give, considering the form Virgil van Dijk and Joël Matip have shown this season.

Perhaps it will take Liverpool beating Arsenal before it is seriously considered as a challenger to City. It won’t be too long before the Reds get their chance.

Arsenal 'reluctant' to spend big on Ivan Toney

Arsenal is reluctant to spend a significant amount of money on a new striker in January, which makes a move for Ivan Toney unlikely, according to The Telegraph. The Brentford striker has been valued at around $126m (£100m/€115m) as interest grows in him once again.

The Gunners are said to be mindful of Financial Fair Play regulations, having spent big during the summer on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber. Mikel Arteta is instead said to be prioritizing a move for a new midfielder.

Liverpool.com says: Unlike Liverpool, Arsenal doesn’t appear to have a plentiful reserve of goals at its disposal. Therefore, not going for Toney, who it’s explained in the same report grew up as a Liverpool fan, would give the Reds a clear advantage in the title race.
