Before the transfer window closes at the end of August, Liverpool needs to find at least a couple more signings having already brought in both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to Anfield.

Jürgen Klopp confirmed that more additions were on their way over the weekend while sporting director Jörg Schmadtke has been busy working on deals along with the Reds' recruitment team.

The biggest priority, for now, is a holding midfielder to replace Fabinho, though Jordan Henderson is also expected to move to Saudi Arabia imminently. Signing someone who can slot straight in at the base of the Reds' midfield will be vital.

After that, though, the need for another center-back to be signed remains. Liverpool is set to lose Joël Matip at the end of his contract next summer and before the need gets severe, should be seeking reinforcements.

Last season, there were too many poor defensive showings and Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, as good as they are, simply cannot play every minute of every game.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Roméo Lavia (Southampton)

Liverpool has been looking at former Manchester City midfielder Roméo Lavia for a while, along with Chelsea and Arsenal, among others, but the Reds have now been given the 'green light' to get a deal over the line.

According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Klopp wants Lavia and the player has given the 'green light' for the move to happen, with Southampton demanding $64m (£50m/€58m).

Today, The Athletic reports that Liverpool has seen an opening offer of $48m (£37m/€43m) turned down.

Liverpool.com says: Lavia appears to be a likely next signing for Liverpool in the market but it would be a worry if he was the replacement for both Henderson and Fabinho. As part of a double midfield move before the end of the transfer window, the Belgian starlet could be a great addition, but it would be a lot of pressure for him to have to come in and make an immediate impact.

Kylian Mbappé (PSG)

It was never likely that Liverpool would be a realistic destination for Kylian Mbappé, but the numbers are starting to get enormous.

Yesterday, the 24-year-old forward was the subject of a $333m (£259m/€300m) bid from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, according to Fabrizio Romano, while CBS Sports' James Benge claimed that Mbappé has been offered a salary of $776m (£605m/€700m) for one year before he would then be allowed to join Real Madrid.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (print edition, via Paisley Gates) reports that Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and the Manchester clubs are interested in signing the player and each is prepared to offer 'more gold' to sign him.

Liverpool.com says: That presumably means 'more' than he has already collected in his career (which would be the same wherever he went) rather than more than Al Hilal has placed on the table. Mbappé would have to take a massive pay-cut to make the move to Liverpool and even then, the Reds need to get more midfielders and a defender in this summer, no matter how good he is.
