It feels like the calm before the storm, as if the transfer window has been split into two. It's already been three weeks since Liverpool confirmed the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, the second arrival of the summer after Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister, and since then things have gone rather quiet on the incoming front.

But now Liverpool has been spurred into action, receiving an offer that was too good to turn down for Fabinho and granting Jordan Henderson's wish to follow him to the Saudi Pro League too.

The Reds will simply have to sign a new number six, and there's certainly an argument that they'll need a number eight too to fill the void left by Henderson.

On top of that, it's worth remembering that another center-back is required too, one who can provide dependable cover in the immediate future and slot into a starting role long-term.

It might be unrealistic to expect that Liverpool will get all of its remaining business done in the three weeks before the season kicks off against Chelsea, but it certainly feels as if things are about to accelerate.

Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn't miss.

Liverpool urged to sign Levi Colwill and Roméo Lavia

Liverpool can make it a 'perfect' window by signing Chelsea defender Levi Colwill and Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia, writes James Martin.

The Reds are facing potential restrictions on the size of their squad because of the Premier League's homegrown quota, but neither player would need to be registered because of their age.

Eventually, they would both qualify for homegrown status themselves, relieving the headache long-term and offering a much-needed short term injection of quality. You can read the full story here.

Federico Chiesa wants Liverpool transfer

Juventus forward Federico Chiesa prefers a move to Liverpool over other Premier League suitors Manchester United and Newcastle, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Marco Guidi has told TV Play.

Chiesa, who's been valued at $55m ($43m/€50m) as per Corriere dello Sport, is apparently 'more inclined' to join the Reds or Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich.

Aston Villa was also linked before it snapped up Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen, but Chiesa had no interest in signing for Unai Emery either and was holding out for a more prestigious club.

However, James Findlater has urged Liverpool to avoid any move given its current priorities and the Italian's injury history. You can read more here as we round up the latest speculation.
