Liverpool is preparing for the return of Premier League football, with a tough test against reigning champions Manchester City fast approaching. The Reds currently sit in second place across the top flight of English football, with Pep Guardiola's side occupying the top spot with a one-point gap currently separating the two teams.

Jürgen Klopp will be eager to build on the most recent 3-0 win against Brentford prior to the international break, with a win being enough to leap-frog City in the table if Liverpool were to secure all three points in the early kick-off.

City have received a huge boost prior to the fixture, with Norwegian goal-machine Erling Haaland returning to training after picking up a foot injury away on international duty. Meanwhile, Liverpool have also received a number of boosts ahead of the return of domestic football, with Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konaté, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch all training and in contention to start this weekend.

Jones should be confident of starting the game and Alexis Mac Allister is likely to be the holding midfielder. Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to be the right-sided number eight.
