Liverpool is preparing for the return of Premier League action this weekend, as it hosts its Merseyside rival Everton at Anfield. The Reds currently sit in fourth place within the table, after dropping points in their last two fixtures with a controversial loss to Tottenham Hotspur and a draw against Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break.

Despite this, it's been a strong start for Jürgen Klopp's side. It now goes in search of its sixth win of the campaign in the top flight of English football, with a three-point gap currently separating it and league leaders Arsenal and Spurs.

While Klopp certainly won't be grateful for yet another early kick-off, it does present Liverpool with the opportunity to go top of the table, at least until other teams kick off later on. With the way the goal difference stands, any win over Everton would lift the Reds top, although a one-goal margin of victory would mean things boil down to the 'goals for' column.

Klopp will be without long-term servant Andy Robertson for this clash, after confirming the left-back would need surgery on a shoulder injury he picked up during Scotland's clash against Spain. That's clearly a major blow, although Liverpool will be able to call upon long-term deputy Kostas Tsimikas, who can now expect a run in the side.

Elsewhere, the fitness of Cody Gakpo will be assessed after he picked up an injury while scoring against Spurs. It looked potentially serious, but he was pictured back in training, and his potential return to action will be a major boost for Liverpool.

Klopp has confirmed that Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić remain sidelined for the time being. Meanwhile, Ben Doak and Conor Bradley will also miss the clash.
