A forward may not necessarily be Liverpool's biggest priority in the January transfer market, but the club has always maintained if the right opportunity arises, it won't let it pass by.

Liverpool is well-stocked when it comes to options in the starting XI, but a couple of injuries for Jürgen Klopp could change the outlook in the front three. When Liverpool was battling for the quadruple a couple of seasons ago, as much as having a strong core of starting XI players, Klopp also had players like Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, who could step up when needed and act as trump cards to get him out trouble.

There's one player Liverpool could target who may be relishing the opportunity of some new scenery, particularly that of Anfield. Leicester City forward Patson Daka is a boyhood Liverpool fan who described playing at Anfield on the club's official website back in 2019 as a 'dream' come true.

"When I was a kid, in my family we had a kind of competition that everybody has to support a famous football team," Daka told Liverpoolfc.com. "My father was a Chelsea fan, my sister supported Arsenal, so I chose Liverpool.

"One of the first really great moments was when Liverpool beat AC Milan in the Champions League final in 2005. Famous players I really love to remember playing here were Fernando Torres and Luis Suárez.

"With my first step on the grass of Anfield, a dream will come true," he continued. "I have seen so many matches on TV and I have heard so many stories about it."

Then playing for Red Bull Salzburg, Daka later earned a move to the Premier League with Leicester City, where he made a successful start, despite playing a peripheral role. Last season, despite Leicester City's relegation, Daka averaged 0.61 goal contributions per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

He is a forward who clearly has an eye for goal and is in great form at the moment. Despite being in exile for Leicester City, at international level, Daka has seven goals in his last six games and is currently thriving for Zambia in the lead-up to the Africa Cup of Nations.

With that tournament taking place in January, it will be an opportunity for Daka to grab the attention once again, and also an opportunity for Leicester to sell a player who is not necessarily in the picture at the club.

Daka has played just two games for Leicester this season, and just one game in the Championship. Clearly a talented player with a track record of playing and scoring goals in the Premier League and the Champions League, Daka deserves better, and could now be available for a relatively low price given his situation at Leicester.

This could open up an opportunity for Liverpool to make a move for the Zambian international and bring him in on the cheap. Depending on Leicester's demands, this could be a smart move from Liverpool, which in turn could discover Klopp's next Origi at Anfield.
